Don my 4bt lacks the get up and go from 1st thru 3rd, however the sweet spot in 4th and 5th is impressive as far as going up hills, grades and the freeway.I don't tow, and it will go up the grades here in the area between 55 and 65 with the occasional downshift to 4th.I think your automatic is the culprit as one of the Twinkie trucks I bought came with a turbo 400 and it had a hard time getting up the hill to the shop and flat out on the freeway would only do 52 or 53 mph.
I think Sterling's truck between the break in and the tires and maybe his shoe size is what is giving him the lower mpg.He is a lucky man to have such a nice ride at such a young age and to me trucks like his are an investment until the next owner enjoys them.
One of my co-workers has the 4bt in a full size Bronco with an auto and some wider tires and he is getting between 18 and 20 mpg, so either way I am sold that the 4bt is the ideal power for these trucks.I am few.months away from finishing a Carryall build with 4bt, nv4500,205 and a dana 60 with a AAM in the rear with 4.56 ratio.I will keep you posted on the results.
