When my dad came home from the war, we still had an ice box. Mama was on the waiting list for a new one when they started making them again. My first "snow cone" growing up in Florida was jumping up on the ice truck while the driver was parked. The huge blocks had been partially sawed and the "dust" could be scooped up with your hand before he threw the insulated tarp over them again.
Most kids today have never seen or even heard of an "ice pick".
