served two winters in Fairbanks keeping Army vehicles going. Coldest was -72 and things you would never think of would cause big problems. Forgetting the summer grade oil in axle housings will stop them from turning. Shocks freeze and bust off the hangers. Tie rod ends and steering boxes so stiff steering is impossible. We would drag the frozen vehicles into the shop with a M113 armored personnel carrier to thaw them out and change the oils.
WE only had a few missed out of several hundred vehicles each winter so it was not too bad.
