Was down at South Buck Lake at my friend's cabin hunting deer. Got up yesterday morning to start the old four wheel drive and my fingers stuck to the door handle. Had the block heater plugged in, thank God. Went back to the thermometer on the post and there was NO mercury in it! It reads to -45 C. The rear tires were half flat and must have started losing air around the beads in the cold. Truck started to overheat and I realized the coolant wasn't quite up to strength and was frozen in the rad. Pulled the tiger torch out of the garage and it only burned for a minute and sputtered out. Brought it and the propane tank into the kitchen and got her up to the stove for half an hour. Once the propane would boil I laid it on the ground under the winch bumper and let her run for 20 min. Strarted the truck and she was circulating. Thank the good Lord the ice didn't wound the radiator! Then we were freezing the air hose off trying to pump the tires back up. Took us an hour of mucking about thawing out hoses and frozen air chucks. Darlene had the coffee hot on the stove when we got back in the cabin half froze. I don't remember -40 weather in November here in Alberta since the early '80s. I drained some coolant out and put in 3 quarts of straight coolant. Morning hunt shot to he11 but oh well, there's lots of wood in the pile. Only -27 C this morning so I can live with that. Gotta love that 5W-30 synthetic AMSoil. Keep the home fires burning everyone! :)
