Clark, is it possible the steering was pulled into place when you took it apart and you never noticed? I mentioned earlier I had the same problem, but I used the civilian 1.5 ton box. It bolts up exactly the same but is designed for the tapered chassis. I made a tapered shim to fix the problem.
