I'd say that'd be bad karma anywhere else, but Midas has it coming in spades. I've hated that outfit ever since I barely extricated a woman friend of mine from their shop 15 years ago. She had an old Dart that might could maybe have used some brake work. They put it up on the hoist and told her it needed new shoes, drums, wheel cylinders and hoses. The guy in the clean shirt pointed at a perfectly good brake hose and told her it was about to blow out. He quoted her $400 (back in about 1985). I asked him how much just to do a normal brake job. He said "If we work on it at all we can't let it back out on the road without doing everything. Too dangerous. We'd be liable..." My friend was a bit of a worrier and was about to get out her checkbook but I managed to at least get her to another shop where they said it was okay as is, but the shoes were getting a bit thin. I've never set foot in that den of thieves since, but I am having a hard time getting the drums off my deuce-and-a-half. Maybe it's time for an "inspection".
