With the blow-by on my engine, I've never had to lube my muffler bearings. It's also nice to have the original oil bath air cleaner, as it automatically lubes the entire exhaust AND intake system (don't forget your intake port bushings) whenever I take the truck on moderate to intense trails. One draw back to the flat head engine design is that you don't get the cold weather start-up lube like you will with an older overhead valve engine.
