40s - 50s 251 vs 60s WM300 251

Does anyone know the difference(s), if any, between the 40-50s 251 vs the 251 used in the WM300 of the 60s? I have found several late 40s-early 50s Dodge trucks rotting away in fields and city lots that have what I believe to be 251-265 engines(heads measure 25" long) and it is possible I can get them for a little to nothing. Did they have the hardened exhaust valve seats back then?
