I have used JB weld for years on many things, always works good for me.
Vaughn is right though you have to rough up the surface to give it something to stick to.

I have not tried to seal a plastic gas can but i have fixed an "ignition/auto-trans Park interlock cable on a little commuter car....
that lasted 15 years no issue.

a friend of mine got an old Sears generator for free that had thrown a rod through the cylinder wall. he prepped and formed up a patch for the cylinder wall with JB Weld then ran the cylinder hone through it till it matched up and then put it all back together. Ran it for years... might still be running ill have to ask him.
