The 'bomb' that hit Dad's truck did not explode. It was an aerial mine, they dropped lots of those and incendiarys form Tinian.
Dad said the bombs had temporary steel bands around them for handling. The bands were removed by chopping with an ax. Lots faster that way. But hey, it was a war time expedient.
There were three men in Dads truck, the next one in the commendation order is a Lindquist. The one in the pic is not Dad, but looks like a Lindquist, eh? And I think Dad had another pic with the other guy in same pose. I do have a pic of Dad in the same 'uniform of the day' on Tinian, next to a 'Bird Dog' Piper Cub.
