I towed my truck home on a U-Haul auto carrier with my 1999 Jeep XJ six cylinder 5 speed today, a pretty heavy load for the Jeep. And, that was with the WC having no powertrain. This is a great running Jeep, very dependable. That said, I now have reservations about putting that type of powertrain in the WC. It just had minimal strength going up slight grades. Not that I'm trying to win races, but I easily got down to 40 MPH on 1% grades. Again, that's not really a big deal, it was a maximum payload, maybe even too much for the Jeep. Performed as expected, and have no false expectations.
But.... I will need the WC to be a pulling truck, to be able to earn it keep under load. So rethinking the horsepower question...
