Hmmm, I have a 60s bell, with a 79' flywheel. When I put it together, I machined a spacer for the flywheel to clear the bellhousing and sweated on a new 143 tooth ring gear. I had searched the archives, and thought I had the correct starter, but apparently not. Probably the reason I've had so much trouble. I have a 2 bolt starter, but the snout has to be modified in order to clear the ring.
