I know wood is plentiful in your area, so it would be a good choice. I like wood heat, although it's a bit of a job keeping it warm for day after day, if that is necessary. To solve that problem, I have a compact gas fired, fan forced unit mounted to the ceiling that allows me to maintain a constant temp in the shop if I have something going on that needs it. Otherwise I have a wood stove that does the job.
I think the ideal heat source is hot water in the floor, fired by gas, propane, or electricity. Simple systems can be made using a small water heater or go with a more sophisticated source.
Everyone has their own ideas, budget constraints, preferences, etc. It has been discussed to great levels here in the past. :)
