in 1960 I spent a week at 4-H Camp located on Roanoke Island on the North Carolina coast. It was quite an adventure and our time there included many activities. One day in particular came immediately to mind when I saw Tommy in NC's picture and article on the Power Wagon used in the life saving operations on the NC coast.

One day while at camp we all loaded up on an old GMC motor-coach and traveled a short distance out to the Outer Banks. We stopped at a public beach parking area on Pea Island so everyone could wade in the surf and look around. As soon as we pulled in and parked, something caught my eye, two brand new Power Wagons. The Power Wagons were owned by the US National Seashore Service. Needles to say I did not cross the sandunes to see the beach! I spent the entire time that we were stopped talking to the men who were with the Power Wagons. I did not have a camera, but I can still see them just now......
