When I moved I discovered some of that same stupid in-efficiency.
I moved less than a mile away, so still the same exact post office. maybe the same carrier.
they told me to expect as much as 2-3 weeks delay in delivery because the closest office that does mail forwarding was in denver!!!!
so my mail went to my local, then put on a truck sent to denver only to be returned to my local office and then delivered to my new address..... I can almost see my old house and the post office from my new house????
no wonder they are in trouble, they don't even care about efficiency.
