You need to be careful...every state & province is different & they like to keep changing things to make it extra confusing. Here in BC, one of the goofy things they do is if you have a trailer that's registered as a car trailer, they issue a small plate that's the size of a motorcycle plate. Once you've registered your trailer as a car trailer...you can't haul any equipment or scrap with it...only cars. Your insurance is void if you have any kind of incident with it. You can avoid it by registering it as an equipment trailer...but then your rates double, the GVW of your tow vehicle must be high enough to cover both the truck & trailer & I believe you're also subject to annual safety inspections on the trailer.
They like to make it hard to be legal it seems.
