Hi ya, Nick!
I just recently put new bed wood in my WDX after straightening/repairing the angles welded to the bed sides and the flanges under the fender wells by the factory. The wood is supposed to be a nominal 3/4 inch thick, but after extensive testing and fitting it became clear to me that wood or anything else of that thickness was NOT going to fit between the angles and the flanges below the angles around the wheel wells. I ended up sanding all the boards down to about 5/8 thickness and then hand fit the areas that were the tightest with bevels on their edges to help the boards slip in between the metal angles and flanges. It took lots of work and patience, but the end result was definitely worth it! The wood in the bed now is actually just pine as I'm going to replace the wood when I repaint the truck with the proper oak material. The pine will be used as template material for the boards that really matter! I will be at Ed's BBQ In October and you are welcome to take a look at what I ended up with...
