I had breakfast with my friend who owns a marina in town, and has been a boat mechanic forever. He likes the Yamaha motors. 4 stroke, they don't make a 2 stroke in that size any more. He said they are built right, and reliable. He said the new generation of Yamaha 4 strokes are better than the previous generation, better off the start, and still quiet. They have a light weight 200, 4 cylinder instead of 6, that weighs a couple hundred pounds less. Not sure about 225 or 250.

He said the current Mercury motors are over engineered, too complicated, and they are phasing out the design. He asked the Mercury rep why their motors are all packed and shipped from China. The Mercury rep said they send the blocks, and parts from the US to China for assembly, because its less expensive to ship them to China, have them assembled there, and ship them back to the US.

I still have a Yamaha 200 Pro-V from 1992. Still works great.
