My truck makes a lot of noise in the gears and it sounds like it's going to blow up. I thought it was coming from the transfercase but a couple Sundays ago I was coming back from church and the bolt holding the u joint came off and the driveshaft fell and slipped out of the spilne. I ended up driving back home with the front axle. While i was driving home the loud noise was gone it had some noise but bearable. My question to you all is can the rear end make that much noise that it travels through the driveshaft and make it sound like it's coming from the transfer case? How much play is acceptable when I turn the rearend yoke?
