Make sure the battery is fully charged, even hook up a battery charger while starting or use an additional battery and jumper cables. If it's a 6 volt system, start it with a 12 volt battery, but use a "hot wire" instead of turning on the key to protect the gas gauge and other electrics.

My thought is that the added load of compressing the sixth cylinder is adding just enough electrical draw to keep the ignition system from starting the engine.

Anyway, I guess is that the engine will start with some additional assistance. In addition to other problems that may exist, I think your starting/electrical system is marginal.
