Hot bluing takes tanks full of hot solution.

Cold bluing is wipe-it-on, then steel wool the rust off and rub oil on. Seems softer than hot blue, used mostly for touch ups. Sold at sporting good stores.

Got any old Lime-Away, phosphoric acid? Or Metal Etch prep? you can dissolve some zinc scrap in phosphorioc acid so it makes a Parkerizing kind of stuff, then oil it.
