I feel your pain.
A couple of years ago "they" came through and ran off with every piece of "red metal" they could find. Went through the outbuildings and unloaded a few things to get at some of it. Lost 6 good rads I was keeping for project vehicles, a few hundred pounds of silicon bronze I had saved for doing casting, and 2 dozen antique bronze door handles and back plates. They will take and flog it for scrap regardless of what it is worth intact.
At times I think about setting up a "Malaysian gate" like the VC used to build in 'nam, or maybe leaving a few claymores around for "rodent control" but the liability outweighs the possible satisfaction.
I DO get a warm fuzzy feeling every time I read about "them" getting fried by some copper wire that is still live.......
