A tragic accident happened in Washburn County earlier this week and a local man has now died as a result. Kevin Kronlund (54) operated two different businesses for years in the Spooner area, one of which entailed his ownership of a local cranberry marsh.
WXCX News has learned that on Tuesday afternoon, Kronlund had a dump truck break through the ice on the marsh, and he was severely injured while trying to tow that truck out using a front end loader. A family friend close to the situation tells us that a steel hook bolted to the frame of the truck actually snapped off while Kronlund was pulling it with a tow rope from in the loader, and that caused the rope to fly up into the loader and strike him in the head.
Kronlund, who has three children, a wife and two living parents, was flown to St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth where he passed away today. The Washburn County Coroner’s office would neither confirm or deny the report.
In addition to the Cranberry marsh, he also owned a military vehicle restoration and sales business out of his shop in rural Spooner.
