If this is the same fitting as on the FFPW oil gauge, there was a discussion on the Power Wagon Advertiser site some years ago about it.
It seems the difference was between the 37 degree and 45 degree flares, but I don't remember the details now.
One of the regular contributors provided the number of the adapter to be used with the compression fitting.
I'm (slightly) embarrassed to say I just torqued the brass fitting that I had and it sealed just fine.
