Well, that may not work either, at least with automakers. Back in the 80's when my brother was still with GM, the government stepped in and put a import tax on all foreign vehicles. If I remember correctly it was $1000.00 at the time. This would give the U.S. automakers an advantage to sell more vehicles.
GM and other manufacturer's response was to raise their prices $1000.00 effectively making it meaningless. When my brother questioned it to the higher ups their response was that people were going to buy what they want anyway. There inlies the mindset of corporate America.
