They're just far more reliable unless you spend money on your 24V.
The P7100 injection pump is built like a tank. You basically need to do something really stupid for it to ever have problems before 500k miles. The VP44...that's probably Dodges worst injection pump. It can be made to be acceptable if you run a proper remote fuel pump but still will never be in the same discussion as a P7100 pump. Then when you jump to a third or fourth Gen...now you've got a whole host more things to break. Your injectors are little computers that cost $500+ each...as opposed to $300 for a set of 6 for a 12V.
The less electronics, the better...& that's why we like Power Wagons my friend :)
All are good trucks...the 94-98.5 2nd Gen is commonly viewed as the best diesel ever built.
