As I recall, you wanted to do it yourself just for the fun of it. That being the case, if the valves aren't too bad, your best bet is to just lap them yourself. Get some coarse and fine grinding compound and one of those suction cup on a stick lapping gizmos that you roll between your hands, or the slightly fancier one that works sort of like an egg beater, total cost $10 or so, and you should be able to improve them somewhat. I can't see buying a real Sioux or other good quality valve seat grinder ($100-$500 on ebay for well-worn sets probably missing the right stone and pilot) just to do one engine. Admittedly, an old flathead would be a great one to practice on, but still like all machine work, doing a good job requires both good tools and good skills.
