Hi Ed:

I looked into this last year and determined the long input shaft (about 9-3/8 inches) on my 1968 NP435D4 (4.56 1st gear) 4 speed used with a hydraulic clutch was far too long for the Ranger OD. Mine would have had to be shortened by just over 3 inches, but then it could never be used in my Dodge truck again. Input shafts on Dodge 435's that use a manual clutch MIGHT be shorter than the input shafts on Dodge 435's that use a hydraulic clutch, but I have not further investigated to confirm or deny that fact.

My second problem was the short (6" or so Chevy) input shaft on the Ranger would end in the middle of the clutch's splined hub and not extend though it into the pilot bearing hole in the clutch plate. AA suggested fabricating a spud (extention) shaft to lengthen the Ranger input shaft just over 3". But the rear joint (seam) between any spud (extension) shaft and the Ranger input shaft would also be in the middle of the clutch splined hub, a very weak and problematic design. AA had no other answers or suggestions, so I shelved that project.

What year and model Dodge truck did you put the AA Ranger in? Does your 435 have the 6.68 1st gear? How long is it's input shaft? Does your truck have a hydraulic or manual clutch ? Which engine? Did you machine or anyway alter the input shadf on the Dodge 435 to fit into the rear of the Ranger? What input shaft did you use in the Ranger OD to fit into the clutch? What clutch did you use?

This information is important so we all can learn what can, and cannot, be done with a Ranger OD in a Dodge truck. Thanks, Fred C.
