I agree with Marty here. This truck was my first attempt at base/clear and a cut/buff. I gleaned all I could from forums and the pros while doing research on how to do it.

Most told me top start with a coarser grit sandpaper, 800 - 1000 grit. For me, that is WAY too coarse as Marty eluded to. I then went to 2000 grit from the start and had a LOT less time chasing scratches. I also ended up using a wood, paint stick backer all the time on flat sections. Kept things a lot flatter for me. On harder curves I used a rubber backer.

Sandin broad strokes with lots of water. Wipe off with a sponge and dry it off. If you still see shiny areas you have to keep going. Avoid your edges till last.

Like others have said, it takes loads of time if you want it real nice and that all depends on how the paint was laid on. I had my truck out at Iowa and most seemed to think it looked okay for a first timer.
