I love the engravings in old patent drawings. Also, I love the way they used to write the claims such that a person "skilled in the art" could actually understand them, whereas to day the goal is apparently to write a claim such that nobody can definitely prove it doesn't cover absolutely everything in the world.
That said, this is just a Rube Goldberg contraption for constructing an extremely inefficient electric motor. It would be fun to see it work, though, especially the "pole changer", which accomplishes the same thing through mechanical complexity that could have been accomplished by simply using AC current.
