I must have half a dozen 230 vehicles and spare engines, and I don't think any two of them have the same carb on them. Lots of obvious home-brew linkages. I don't think it would be any harder to jerry-rig a linkage for a modern Weber. I think if I was converting, I'd go for a progressive 2-barrel rather than a 1-barrel Weber, since either one would require adapting the manifold and the linkage, and for that trouble, I would like to see if I could get some of the fuel economy advantages of a 2-barrel. I also like the fact that it's shorter than our old Carters and comes with its own little air cleaner, so I think it would solve the problem trying to fit the air cleaner under the hood. You can even get them with a manual choke. In this case, I went with the electric just to avoid having to mount the choke knob somewhere and get the cable through the firewall, but on an old rig, I'd definitely get the manual choke version.
