Yes, the article I read was about the newer engines. And, the article was saying that the manufacturers are not putting exhaust brakes on some new engines because of the high temperatures from emission controls. Not that they were experiencing any problems with older engines and exhaust brakes.
The problem is that during the cleaning process of the diesel particulate filter, temperatures reach high enough to damage the exhaust brakes.
