This is all speculation. I have never owned anything with dual wheels.

I realize that the outer dual could easily be distorted into position when the lug nuts are tightened down possibly making up for slight wear in the bevels. Just surprised to learn that they were designed to touch face-to-face. Or do they only touch after they have worn in?
