put the old rusty frame in the registry using the number on the frame. Then use the new frame number for the rebuilt truck.

I think every identifiable truck should end up in the Power Wagon registry, even if it's just a frame. That's my opinion. I don't run the registry. But, it's nice to acknowledge every truck's existence and its final status before it shuffles off to the big scrap yard in the sky.

The frame and frame number are the soul of the truck. So, if you are registering with the state, try to use the frame number. But, some states require two matching serial numbers on the truck. If you don't have both, they will issue you a new number and decal or VIN tag. But, the original frame number will be what most FFPW people care about, regardless.

One of my parts trucks is registered with the production number from the cab plate. That's not the number that should usually be used. But, DMV clerks will tend to look at that number since it is the one that looks most like a modern VIN number. Using this number could cause a problem in the future, but it will probably work in most cases.
