Keep working on your truck with the goal of getting it in good running condition. Keep reading. Eventually, the bits and pieces of information you are asking about will fall into place. Save the advanced stuff for later.
But, for now, the M37 is just a distant cousin of the civilian flat fender Power Wagon, so don't buy any M37 parts until you know what you are doing.
And, short of spending a lot of time, money and effort, forget about making a flat fender Power Wagon any kind of useful road truck.
