PW and 2wd '39 - '47 Dodge trucks have excellent brakes when adjusted correctly provided the vehicle is used as designed. If I was looking at re-powering and high speed diffs, I would probably look at disks, but I already have 4x4 vehicles with disks that will go way past the speed limit if that's what I want to do. I see some beautifully modified trucks on this forum and would be proud to have any one of them, but I would still need to have an old sort of original truck to mess with because the modified ones just don't do what the originals were intended for - they might haul more, go faster, more power, look beautiful, but an old original is designed for ridiculous uses, like crawling along in low granny while you climb in the back and feed out to stock, like quietly dragging a huge tree off a fence line without fuss - they just do what they are designed to do. Like a lot of old trucks they aren't designed for high speed, there's no crumple zones or roll-over protection built in, so go slow and enjoy what they can do. Now I feel better!!
