This motor is an '82 350 but yes, it does have hydraulic lifters. I have a little "splash tray" that I bolt on to keep the oil off the headers and tabs that go on the rockers to deflect the oil from the pushrods.

Yes, coil checked many times, and I have another coil I have swapped on with the exact same symptom. New plugs & new wires. I even sucked it up and checked for cross fire with bare and sweaty hands....no pee down my leg from getting shocked....(that was with an Accel coil). All wires have been pulled back and are not touching anything metal.

I did pull the valve covers and ran the engine to look for irregular lift but I did not adjust anything at that time.

It was also doing the same thing BEFORE i blew the valve covers off while trying to weld up a pinhole in the oil pan...I knew it was a dumb idea...but did it anyway.

It's really strange. At idle I have a pop through the exhaust every now and then and the idle picks up for for a split second afterwards.....still stumped.
