I took the cover off the regulator and the contacts move freely. I reconnected the battery and there seemed to be no draw. Perhaps it freed itself.
My Dad had a copy of the 1956 'Motors' book and there is a nice section on the charging system.
I'm currently charging the batteries, and I'll continue with some testing tonight. I now know to keep an eye on the amp gauge after I shut the truck off.
With any luck I will have everything I need to install the 12V conversion in about 2 weeks. I have a few questions about that but I'll start a new thread.
