The problem is not the size or style, but that you will never get individual stamps to line up and be uniformly spaced like the numbers do on a factory VIN. Also, individual stamps tend to leave marks (shadows) around the numbers which are an obvious tip off to the fact the numbers were stamped individually.

Also, the depth of the impression is very uniform for each number on a factory VIN. I suspect it would be very difficult to match that uniformity of depth from number to number.

I'm not saying it's impossible to duplicate the numbers, just very difficult for the average guy using stamps bought off Ebay.

If people can duplicate 20 dollars bills and Las Vegas gaming tokens, somebody has the skill to duplicate VIN tags.
