In cases like this, it would be good if people would offer up some basic information, like year, make and model. While this is not a general information forum, if someone offers to help, a little basic information would be useful.
There are two types of tire pressure monitoring systems. The indirect type, which attempts to deduce tire pressure by measuring wheel speed, might indeed take awhile to reset. This type of system is becoming more popular, but, I think most systems on the road today are direct TPMS, at least for cars old enough to have required new tires.
