Although I am more of a 1/2 ton WC guy, I do believe all M-37's came with a semi-synchromesh tranny- 3rd and 4th. There was the earlier version up to late 1954 and the later version from 1955 and later which Dodfge called the 420. The mounting ears on the later Tranny are in a different location to mount up to the later bellhousing. You cannot mount an early M-37 Tranny to a later(1955 and up)M-37 bellhousing nor mount a later M-37 tranny on an eralier M-37 bellhousing. This Info comes from Dave Cirilo's website.
