Finally got the darn motor running right last night. I should know better than try to pull a carb off the shelf without tearing into it. Kept dumping gas out the secondaries so I pulled the top and adjusted the float (electric fuel pump was too strong) which stopped the leaking, still no start. I must have checked and reset the timing 5 times.... finally got fed up and picked up a spread bore to square bore adapter and put the 750 Edelbrock back on (too much carb even on the 300hp motor). After I got it swapped, i was moving the Q-jet and noticed that the secondary metering rods were MIA...found them sitting on the bench. Anyway, the Q jet is not going back on. Got the Edelbrock set up and still no go...just popped and sputtered so I popped out the distributor and threw another one in.....better but still no start. Ready to pull my hair out, I started pulling spark plugs. A little fuel soaked but they have been much worse and kept running....turns out the plugs were the ticket...I cleaned them up and damned if it didn't fire right up, barely had to adjust the distributor to get it back in time....

Only things left now are to replace the spark plugs and wires (the wires don't work with the headers and are arcing on 3 and 2 cylinders). The clutch is a bit stiff and sensitive but I'll get used to it, Finally, I should rig up a different accel pedal...to get it in the right position it puts a curly-q in the cable and makes it way too stiff...Im sure I'll break the cable.

In any case, I'm back in business for the parade in McPherson on Friday.
