Hi Desoto,
You shouldn't be using primer to fill anything you can feel with your hand other than light pitting or pin holes in the filler..& even that you're better off with a polyester 2 part putty. Don't ever use Glaze...only 2 part polyester filler. Never any 1 part primers or anything resembling red oxide primer either.
The high build primers are only used for blocking out tiny imperfections that your hands cant feel. If you're building the primer any further than that, it'll shrink & look like hell.
Remember...the thinner the coating the better. You don't want a high build of paint or primer if it can be avoided.
It always cracks me up when guys want "5 full coats of paint" or whatever...you want the thinnest layer you can apply, wetsand & polish without polishing through.
Ultimately, if you could do the bodywork perfect & apply one coat of epoxy primer & follow it up with paint immediately without even sanding...that would be best but it's not practical & not usually possible but that's how new cars are painted.
High end body shops do not use hi build primers, Hi build primers are for us dumb guys that don't do good bodywork & so effectively it's a way to fill the whole vehicle because we couldn't do it with filler properly...or better yet..pick & file :)
Hi Build primers shrink more than polyester fillers & so keep it to a minimum wherever possible & avoid any on interiors, floors & firewalls...just more sanding that's a big waste of time. The more you spray on the more you have to sand off...you follow?
