Some of the not so smart, smart chargers need to see a little voltage before they start charging. Optima batteries can be totally discharged with zero current showing, but still be a good, rechargeable battery.

If you connect the dead Optima in series with a good batter, it will fool the charger into thinking the Optima still has some current and the charger will start to work.

98 per cent of what the average guy needs a battery charge for can be done with a low amp trickle charger. For the other two percent, it's nice to have a bigger charger.
