The phone company used PW's with a front A-frame hoist to set poles. The bottom two legs attached to the bum[er, and the top two legs attached to 1.25" diameter studs that were welded to the truck on its "cheeks" (through the cowl, just under the ends of the windshield, about even with the top door hinge.

Each of the studs stuck out about 4 inches, and the end of each brace had a flat spot with a hole drilled into it that went over the end of the stud. They were fastened with huge wing-nuts that screwed down on the studs.

One of the PW's I used to own had the studs still showing, but they had been burnt off.
