The rear is there to keep the bear lube, a grease, from getting diluted by the differential oil. But any,ore, the modern gear oils are not kept separate, the hub bearings are lubed with the same reservoir of gear oil.

And in the front, the inside of the hub is lubed by grease, and so are the bearings, no separation needed.

And the drive flanges are different tan the one piece axle w/ integral flange, doubt thing would fit inside there anyhow.
