If the knobs are the older silver bodys with bakelite centers with the words on them, look for a small hole in the side of the knob, back near the shaft. Stick a tiny slotted screwdriver into the hole and wiggle and pull. The knob should pull off. The headlight switch should have a button on the body of the switch itself, that when depressed allows the knob and shaft to be removed.
The newer black knobs with a white letter in the center will usually have a setscrew in the side of the knob. The headlight knob removes ad described for the earlier knobs. Black choke and heater cable knobs are not removable from the cables.
