The typical canvas water bags were to supply cool water for drinking. Back in the 50,60's they were the way to always have a cool drink.
They always sweated enough to keep the bag totally wet. Movement of the vehicle produced a air flow over the bag hanging on the front of the vehicle. They evaporation cooled the water. I used them all the time back in my early college days.....and they did work quite well
