I Built a 6x10 tandem axle dump trailer about 7 or 8 years ago... best thing ever!
Let me tell you, when you are backed in to the line of pickups at the dump and you you get out, tip the trailer and leave in the time it takes another couple of guys to struggle to lift some old couch or something out of a pickup truck.....what do they say "priceless"
My trailer is made out of an old re-purposed travel trailer, it has a box tube frame, I moved the axle mounts forwards toward the tongue and used the extra lengths of frame rails to form the perimeter of my dump box.
the biggest expense for me was the hydraulics.
If I was doing it again I would search around in a junkyard for the 12 volt pump and rams from an old power tailgate or possibly a wheelchair lift from a mini bus....as for the lift cylinder , check out the dump "scissor" style like is available from Northern Hydraulics.. on mine I wound up using a telescoping cylinder from an old domestic wheelchair elevator, but sometimes it would be nicer to have the ram under the dump box.
