Mine was painted with whatever the paint was on the outside. I blasted the whole thing clean after I was done with my notch install.

I ended up painting the inside with Glyptol since it's often used inside engines and gear cases to seal the pores and aid in oil return. I had some left over from painting the inside of the transfer case. I also used it inside the knuckle housings and differentials castings for the same reasons. It's nasty to work with but is supposed to be impervious to just about any oil/grease and tolerant of the high temps.
